I feel fantastic." That's what Rod, one of the guys from my cycling club, had to say when we were talking about the basic fitness levels cycling can bring you. Rod was a keen novice when he joined and he's taken a gentle, progressive approach to his fitness. If you've got a busy life and want to make the most of a few precious leisure hours, cycling is a great way to go - either on your own or with a local club. If you have limited cycling experience, it's worth building up your confidence levels first. Do this by taking your bike out on the road to get used to how it handles, and to assess your fitness level. If your lungs burst on the first modest hill, it's probably a good idea to make the first weeks gentle. Don't fret - you'll soon be making good gains if you follow some basic rules. 1) Stretch for a couple of minutes before every ride Together with your calf muscles, your quads (these are at the top of your thighs) form the basis of your pedal power and as you ride more, you'll notice them toning up. When riding from cold, it's very easy to tweak a muscle in the first five minutes. Stretching will help warm the muscle and prevent this happening. 2) Build up to distance A little and often is a good rule to follow. Initially, this might be a couple of miles around local cycle paths or country lanes. Soon you'll be ready for more ambitious rides. The trick is to maintain your hunger for riding and not to try too much too soon. more halfordscompany.com | terms of use | terms & conditions of sale | privacy … Kestrel Bikes Bike Shops Halfords Motor Second Hand Bikes UK Yamaha Quad Bikes Honda Motor Bikes Bicycle Mens Bicycles Honda Bikes Halfords com Barbie Bikes www.Halfords.com Solid Bikes Bonthrone Magna Bikes Raliegh Bikes Moto Bikes Raleigh Bicycles UK Gazelle Bicycles Yeti Bicycles Gazelle Bicycles Triumph Bikes Bonthrone Bikes Magna Bikes Second Hand Bicycles |
