The full 240 mile, waymarked coast to coast journey links Southport to Hornsea. This day ride covers the hardest section on the whole route; much of the rest of the TPT is largely flat. Unusually for such a long trail, a very large percentage of it is off-road, using rail paths, canal towpaths, forest and farm tracks. As well as the marvellous Peak scenery on crossing the Pennines , the route visits quiet pastoral spots such as the Plain of Cheshire, uncovers old industrial heritage and spectacular new visitor attractions such as The Deep aquarium at Hull . Developed over a number of years, the whole of the trail only became available in 2001 and looks set to be extremely popular. Food & Drink Cafes and food shops in Hadfield: Vale House Farm is just off the trail, adjacent to Vale House Reservoir. Cakes, soups, snacks and teas are available. The Stanhope Arms at Dunford Bridge serves lunches and evening meals. Weather note The weather on 'the tops' after you climb out of Longdendale can be significantly different to that in the valley below.
