This book does stand alone, but anyone reading it will want to go back and read the first two stories of Daine, just to get more of Pierce's unique blend of magic and adventure". -- Voice of Youth Advocates From the Publisher A knight at last, Alanna of Trebond heads out to seek adventure in the desert of Tortall. Captured by desert tribesmen, she is forced to prove herself in a magical duel to the death. But her real challenge doesn’t come until after she wins. As the first female shaman, Alanna must fight to change the ancient traditions of the stubborn desert tribes -- for their own sake and for the sake of all Tortall. This third book in the Song of the Lioness quartet continues Alanna’s saga as she strikes out alone and discovers herself anew. Review Quotes "Lively and enjoyable, with a strong, vigorous heroine."-- The Horn Book "Alanna’s world is a harsh one, but believable.... This fantasy provides food for introspection as well as flights of imagination in a magical kingdom." -- Kirkus Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 5 1. an amazing story Reviewer: danielle Breffitt from Ottawa Ontario Date: 9/18/2000 7:23:29 PM This book may be a liitle slower than the others in the series but nonetheless a great book.I think that Tamora Pierce's stories about Allana are great and very interesting. 2. The Seattle Times, August 03, 2002: Toronto - Indigo Books & Music and a group representing Canada's independent booksellers said they will challenge in court a government decision letting Amazon.com set up a Canadian Web site. Indigo, Canada's largest book chain, and the Canadian Booksellers Association said Amazon.com has violated rules that bar non-Canadians from controlling bookstores. Seattle-based Amazon.com is paying Assured Logistics, a unit of government-owned Canada Post, to run a Toronto-area warehouse and deliver books, music and movies ordered through the month-old Canadian site, Amazon.ca. That way, Amazon doesn't operate a bookstore in Canada. "The Heritage Department has confirmed Amazon.ca is operating in accordance with Canadian laws," said company spokeswoman Kristin Schaefer.
