( Details ) Dimensions: 304 Pages | Series Title: A Series of Unfortunate Events | ISBN: 0064410129 Published: October 2002 | Published by Harper Collins From the Publisher Everybody loves a carnival! Who can fail to delight in the colorful people, the unworldly spectacle, the fabulous freaks? A carnival is a place for good family fun, as long as one has a family, that is. For the Baudelaire orphans, their time at a carnival turns out to be yet another episode in a now unbearable series of unfortunate events. In fact, in this appalling ninth installment in Lemony Snicket's serial, the siblings must confront a terrible lie, an ambidextrous person, a caravan, and Chabo the wolf baby. About the Author Lemony Snicket is widely regarded as one of the most difficult children's authors to capture and imprison. Recently, he had to give up on his hobbies due to laws regarding musical performances in mountainous terrain Most things written about him are not true, but this is. About the Illustrator Brett Helquist was born in Ganado, AZ, grew up in Orem, UT, and now lives in New York City, where among other noble pursuits, he translates Mr. Snicket's obscure findings into the images that help readers understand the horror of the Baudelaire's plight. Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 5 1. The BEST yet I ever SEEN Reviewer: Colten from Beeton/ontario (pumpuup40@hotmail) Date: 2/11/2003 6:46:10 PM OHH this is a great book i just can`t wait for the 10 book! 2. It Could Be Better Reviewer: alyssa from winnipeg, manitoba Date: 2/9/2003 8:20:07 PM This book is OK, but it's not as good as the other books in the series. I kind of liked the Unauthorized Biography more than the Carnivorous Carnival. I expcted more. I don't know why. 3. Best Book Ever Reviewer: Tal from Toronto Date: 10/13/2002 11:03:27 PM The S.O.U.E books are fabulous,I absolutley love them. I always know when each and every book is released (And my mom doesn't know why) and I'm always right. They expand my vocabulary, and they also expand my mom's as well. I also think they're better than Harry Potter books, because those kinds of books don't teach kids anything, except about witchcraft. So these books are really appropriate for kids my age(12). 4. WOW Reviewer: sanam from scarbrough (sanam750@hotmail.com) Date: 10/4/2002 9:30:17 PM This series is the best in the world! 5. A series of unfortunate events and excellence Reviewer: Ashvin Singh - 13 yrs old from Alberta, Canada (ashvin_singh@shaw.ca) Date: 9/9/2002 12:35:49 AM Lemony Snicket's excellent depiction of the trials of the Baudelaire orphans is marvelous. Detailed, yet humourous, meticulous, but not boring, the story opens up relatively quickly and proceeds to a tangled storyline, which is filled with dramatic, humourous, and cliff-hanging moments that leave the reader on the edge of his seat. It is a style of writing I honestly have never seen before, because it leaves mysteries such as the Baudelaire mansion tunnel, the Quagmire events, and the tale of some alleged Beatrice, who oddly seems to weave its way into the storyline. Lemony Snicket himself is, or seems to be, included in the storyline in one point or another, hence the reference to Jacques Snicket. All in all, it is a great series, and I hope it continues for books on end. A magnificent tale, for and child and adult alike. Read all of the reviews... Amazon Canada - Always the best prices!

The Seattle Times, August 03, 2002: Toronto - Indigo Books & Music and a group representing Canada's independent booksellers said they will challenge in court a government decision letting Amazon.com set up a Canadian Web site. Indigo, Canada's largest book chain, and the Canadian Booksellers Association said Amazon.com has violated rules that bar non-Canadians from controlling bookstores. Seattle-based Amazon.com is paying Assured Logistics, a unit of government-owned Canada Post, to run a Toronto-area warehouse and deliver books, music and movies ordered through the month-old Canadian site, Amazon.ca. That way, Amazon doesn't operate a bookstore in Canada. "The Heritage Department has confirmed Amazon.ca is operating in accordance with Canadian laws," said company spokeswoman Kristin Schaefer.
