First impressions count, and a dismal hallway is a poor advertisement for the rest of your home, but there is plenty you can do to improve it. CONTRASTS OF LIGHT & SHADE The contrast of light and shade adds atmosphere to this look. Hanging lantern-style glass lamps , fittings that look like spheres or stars, and metal candelabras with the bulbs on show are ideal for general illumination - look for exotic shapes and multicoloured glass for a more elaborate effect. Dress up glass in a small hall window or the front door with coloured glass paints for even greater embellishment. The final touch to complete this look, is rustic looking wooden furniture, a few well-chosen pictures with matt black or beaten metal frames , and some lush foliage.
