All it takes to create this look is a little inspiration and some basic points on style. WELCOMING WARMTH The first thing you notice in this room is the glorious floor. It's hard to believe that such a look could be achieved in a few hours, without specialist skills, but it's true: laminated flooring is simple to lay and gives stunning results, especially against brightly painted skirting and with toning woodwork throughout the room. The continuation of the wood theme blends far more successfully in this room than any curtain could, and really adds to the atmosphere. Because the focus of this room is on its wonderful wood, a simple scheme is required for the walls: they need to blend in rather than stand out. A warm terracotta provides the answer, in a soft matt finish that contrasts beautifully with the shiny floor and brasswork. The same shade is used on the ceiling to further deepen the warm effect, as there is plenty of light entering the room. A soft cream picks out the skirting and window frame without being harsh: brilliant white can be too bright in a gentle scheme like this and distract the eye. UNINTERRUPTED RELAXATION The colours of both paints are picked up in many of the contents of the room, including the exotic rug . Soft furnishings and accessories make all the difference to a lounge: imagine this room with no rug, with a modern TV in one corner and a selection of posters on the wall and you will see exactly what I mean!
